What Is IELTS?
The International English Language Testing System (IELTS) is designed to help you work, study or migrate to a country where English is the native language. This includes countries such as Australia, Canada, New Zealand, the UK and USA. Apart from these countries, it is also accepted in Europe.
Your ability to Listen, Read, Write and Speak in English will be assessed during the test. IELTS is graded on a scale of 1-9.
IELTS is jointly owned by the British Council; IDP IELTS; and Cambridge University Press & Assessment.
IELTS has two types:
IELTS Academic: for those who want to study abroad
IELTS General Training: for those who are looking for employment or PR (Permanent Residency)
IELTS Test Modes: Paper based & Computer Delivered Test (CDT).
IELTS Test Fee
Paper-based: ₹16,250/-
Computer-delivered: ₹16,250/-
You can opt to your test either on paper or computer whichever is convenient to you.
Mode of Payment: IELTS test fee can be paid by using the following modes:
• Credit/ Debit (Visa or Master) and Net banking
• UPI
• Demand Draft - Please ensure that the demand draft is drawn in Favour of "IDP EDUCATION INDIA PRIVATE LIMITED, Payable at New Delhi" and is made from the list of approved banks. Find the list in the Terms & Conditions document here.
• Bank deposit – Alternatively, candidates can deposit cash in ICICI/HDFC bank branches through a customized deposit slip that can either be downloaded from IELTS IDP India website or obtained from the nearest IELTS IDP branch office/ referral partner. It is mandatory to attach the original customer copy of the deposit slip along with the IELTS application form.
Test Format
There are four sections to the test: Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking (L, R, W, S).Listening, Reading and Writing tests are taken on the same day, one after the other, without any breaks in between.
The Speaking test may either fall on the same day or any day up to a week before or after the test date. For the Speaking test, you can book a slot online on your preferred date and time. If you fail to choose a slot within the stated time period, a time slot will be automatically allocated to you.
Test duration: 2 hours and 45 minutes.
Listening* (30 minutes) • Four recorded monologues and conversations (40 questions)
Reading (60 minutes) • Three long reading passages with tasks• Texts may include diagrams, graphs or illustrations• Texts are taken from books, journals, magazines and newspapers
Writing (60 minutes) • TASK 1: Summaries, describe or explain a table, graph, chart or diagram• TASK 2: Short easy task of at least 250 words
Speaking* (11 to 14 minutes) •Face-to-Face interview without disruptions or distractions• Includes short questions, speaking at length about a familiar topic and a structured discussion.
IELTS test dates and centers in India

You may either book your IELTS test online or visit your nearest IDP branch to help you register offline. When you register for IELTS test, you will be asked to select your city and date of preference. The test dates may vary as per location and test type. Once you decide on your preferred test type and location, pick the date that suits you the most.

To make it convenient for our test takers, IDP has test centers in 75 test cities across India. IELTS test dates are offered upto 4 times in a month making a total of 48 fixed test dates in one calendar year. The availability of IELTS dates in India may differ for the Academic and General Training module. In order to create flexibility and convenience, tests are mostly held on Saturdays and Thursdays.

Please note that listening, reading, writing (LRW) tests shall take place on the same day while the speaking tests will be conducted up to 7 days prior and/or post the test date. It may be possible that your nearest IELTS test location may not offer the same date as another IELTS test city location. For any confusion feel free to contact us.
IELTS Result
Paper and computer tests
• Results for IELTS on paper will be released 13 days after your written test.
• Results for IELTS on computer will be available 3–5 days after your test.
